we are a couple of laid back parents turned slightly over-read or shall we say over-googled. hopefully we aren’t too self-righteous as parents, we don’t actually believe all the crap (no pun intended. . ) we read like some of you out there might. i mean, to take all this parenting stuff literally is like taking feng shui literally. this is the story of our journey in parenthood, as we inadvertently find ourselves accidentally part of a movement of people called EC’ers. LOL. yes, in a series of many LOL moments we have found ourselves laughing and loving every moment of what is called Elimination Communication. honestly, this was all very “organic” and instinctual, my husband actually suggested it. i thought it was strange but that it made sense. one google session later and we’re off to the races with the rest of the movement already in progress. as if this world wasn’t crunchy enough with all the breastfeeding, bradley-method-wanna-be-natural-birthing (that was us, except we secretly made a birth-plan that we showed no-one and then got the epidural the second we got to the hospital–albeit at 6 cm dilated!!), organic everything, co-sleeping, non-vaccination believing hype. (naturally, we believe in all this but don’t worry we believe everything in moderation so don’t expect us to be these hardcore Le Leche types) this blog begins with our first son at six and half mos as we embark in the adventure of early toilet training. and for those of you that think this is ridiculous, all i have to say to you is: that you are ridiculous for thinking that you should let your baby poop on himself. lol. there it is again. i know this is hard to accept, that toilet training a six month old is cool. at first, i would have concurred with you . . but let it marinate, because it doesn’t take long for the common sense on this one to kick in, it’s other way around on this one. whatever principles made you to believe breastfeeding was possible are similarily applied here too. as scary as it might seem for you to handle poop at a lesser amount of control, just know it’s usually the parent, not the child that needs to be trained most. who knew all the people living in third world countries had it right?! all the technology of our world has created crutches and beliefs that are driven by consumerism.
